Position Details:

  • Full-time schedule, Sunday starting at 1:00pm and Monday-Thursday starting at 2:00pm
  • Pay starts at $18 an hour plus opportunity for premium pay
Position Purpose:

The Yard Driver is responsible for moving tractor trailers to/from the loading docks and parking loaded or empty trailers in designated areas in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
  • Performs inspections and moves trailers safely following all DOT regulations and company safe-driving policies.
  • Fuels, moves, and parks tractors and trailers to the docks.
  • Tractor trailers will be moved around the facility, no city driving.
  • Secures trucks, trailers, and equipment always.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • Able to back up to the dock
  • Ability to back up within tight spaces on the yard
  • Be safe and vigilant while working on the yard

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent

6+ months of Yard Hostler/Switching experience

Internal candidates may be promoted with less than 6 months experience with good performance record in accordance with driver training program requirements.

Must be able to work the scheduled, assigned times and required overtime for the position.

Valid driver's license (no CDL required)

Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)

Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years

Pass road test

Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift; product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location

Preferred Qualifications

1+ years of Yard Hostler/Switching experience required

Have a valid Class A license

Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (i.e., PeopleNet)
