Position Summary:

As the Director, Regulated Products, this individual will be responsible for managing the existing and emerging categories subject to high levels of regulation and oversight. In scope immediately are tobacco categories including cigarettes, cigars, OTP as well as vapor and CBD. The Director would be responsible for understanding the regulatory environment around these categories and providing sound business strategies to navigate the complexity and take advantage of appropriate business opportunities. In addition, this individual will engage with vendors providing product in these categories, reviewing and analyzing programs, and engaging in legislative activities where Core-Mark’s business might be impacted. A successful candidate would have a background working with these categories in manufacturing or wholesale environment and have specific experience formulating comprehensive strategies appropriate to the business environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Closely follow business environment related to regulated categories currently including cigarettes, cigars, OTP, vapor and CBD.
  • Act as company’s subject matter expert with regards to assigned categories.
  • Engage with industry associations to understand perspectives and strategies related to the successful management of these categories.
  • Identify related business risks and opportunities associated with these highly regulated categories.
  • Work with divisions and manufacturers to develop responses to legislation impacting these categories within the business.
  • Evaluate emerging products and categories that are or might become regulated in the short term, anticipate business requirements and identify opportunities.
  • At times, engage with customers on strategic discussions related to these regulated categories.
  • Provide input regarding merchandising solutions in convenience retail space.
  • Work with purchasing department to share perspectives and opportunities related to highly regulated categories.
  • Work with Marketing Services to ensure regulated items are appropriately restricted from sale as the landscape continues to evolve.

  • Engage with manufacturers to understand and evaluate wholesale programs, develop strategies to optimize related opportunities.

Skills & Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in a wholesale/retail management of cigarettes, OTP, or vapor.
  • Specific experience managing in a complex environment.
  • Ability articulate thoughts in a thoughtful and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated professional leadership providing strategic direction.  
  • High level of analytical skills.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows-based programs.
